Crafting for Crafters

Right on the Etsy front page we are told it's a place to buy and sell all things handmade. And it seems that this often means crafters are selling things to other crafters. Part of the appeal of this could be that you get a chance to enjoy the things you just don't have the time or resources to make (even if you have the talent or inclination to make them).

Now, don't get me wrong, there are some awesome things on Etsy that I could never make myself, and I respect all those talented people out there. Sure, being crafty means that you also have an appreciation for handmade goods. But have you ever found yourself buying something that you could have made yourself? I know I have. What does this mean?

For me, it can be a lack of time and/or resources. Sure, I would love to get a Gocco machine and make my own designs. But that's a bit of a committment. So instead, I am drawn to what others print with their Goccos.

Right now, I am fascinated with pinback buttons. I have my own ideas in mind and would love to play with a button machine. But I don't know if I could justify paying out the money for all the supplies. Instead I browse to find cute additions for my collection. Check out these beauties from Brainscan's shop:

Know what else is offered there? Custom buttons! Maybe a chance to have the best of both worlds: my designs without the investment in materials. Just one more reason to love Etsy!
